On July 9 an armed resident in Upland helped end a police chase by drawing his gun on a fleeing suspect and holding him at gunpoint while police arrived.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the pursuit occurred “on the 210 Freeway” and ended when the robbery suspect entered a cul-de-sac in Upland and was cornered by the resident.
LA Sheriff Deputies had already warned residents the suspect was headed their way, and the residents talked of how they retrieved their firearms as they waited for the chase to end. One resident remained in his backyard and walked near to where a police helicopter hovered so he see what was happening.
He said deputies asked him to go inside and lock his doors, so he went inside and locked the back one, then walked out of the front of the house to watch the action.
After an armed citizen helped capture the suspect, a witness identified him as “the suspect wanted on suspicion of grand theft as the man accused of robbing a cellphone store in San Dimas.”
A second suspect escaped in the getaway car.
