Former President Barack Obama formally endorsed incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in her re-election race on Friday, with just over a month to go before the June 5 primary.

Meanwhile, a second poll in as many weeks shows progressive favorite State Sen. Kevin de Léon (D-Los Angeles) in trouble in the race for U.S. Senate in California — though California Republicans are rejecting the candidate in second.
The SurveyUSA poll shows Patrick Little at 18% behind Feinstein, who polls at 39%. Little is running as a Republican, but the San Francisco Chronicle notes that he is a neo-Nazi (original links):
“I am the only America First candidate in California,” Little proclaims on his website. “No more of Feinstein’s Jewish supremacist wars for Israel.”
Aghast at the possibility of being represented by a Senate candidate whose platform calls for “limiting representation of Jews in the government” and making it U.S. policy that the Holocaust “is a Jewish war atrocity propaganda hoax that never happened,” California Republican leaders were quick to denounce Little.
“Mr. Little has never been an active member of our party. I do not know Mr. Little and I am not familiar with his positions,” Matt Fleming, a California Republican Party spokesman, said in a statement. “But in the strongest terms possible, we condemn anti-Semitism and any other form of religious bigotry, just as we do with racism, sexism or anything else that can be construed as a hateful point of view.”
Ironically, Little identifies himself on the ballot as a “civil rights advocate.”
Another poll, released last week by University of California Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies, showed unknown Republican James Bradley in a virtual tie with De Léon for second place.
The race for second is crucial because under California’s “jungle primary” system, the top two finishers in the June 5 primary will advance to the November election, regardless of party.
De Léon is struggling to gain traction despite backing from unions, “Berniecrats,” and left-wing billionaire Tom Steyer.
Another neo-Nazi will appear on the ballot in Illinois in the race for the 3rd congressional district after the GOP failed to block him from qualifying.
The SurveyUSA poll also shows Republican businessman John Cox running competitively with the two leading Democrats in the race for governor: “[Lt. Gov. Gavin] Newsom at 21% remains the front-runner in the contest, which is just fluid enough that neither [former Los Angeles mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa at 18% nor Cox at 15% can be called a clear #2. All 3 have an opportunity to advance to the 11/06/18 runoff election, though, if Cox and Villaraigosa advance and Newsom is odd-man-out, that would be a stunning upset.”
