Mychal Denzel Smith: People Re-Define ‘Slut’ to Belittle Women How They Want to

During Saturday’s “Melissa Harris-Perry” on MSNBC, TheNation.com’s Mychal Denzel Smith commented on last week’s Amber Rose “Slut Walk” and the term “slut,” saying the term changes meaning depending on how badly you want to belittle women.

Smith noted that in changing the definition of “slut,” people “try to define someone else’s sexuality for themselves.”

“I think the changing definition, it changes meaning depending on how badly you want to belittle women. It shifts all the time. ‘I’m talking about the number of sexual partners.’ Well, how does that define someone’s sexuality? ‘Well, it’s not about the number, necessarily, it’s about the way you do,’ it shifts no matter, whoever is using it. They shift the definition so they can belittle women and whatever they choose, they try to define someone else’s sexuality for themselves”
