Giuliani: We Could Have More Attacks This Year

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani warned that more attacks like San Bernardino are possible within the year.

Giuliani told host Joe Scarborough that this won’t reach levels of what the Israelis have had to deal with, but attacks like San Bernardino are more difficult to defend against because it does require as much communication.

Partial transcript as follows:

SCARBOROUGH: I just got to ask you this because people always ask us this when they see us out on the streets, how are we doing? Are we safe? Is it OK for our kids to —

GIULIANI: Obviously we’re not safe. On Monday, I was at the opening of the year for the workers in San Bernardino. We had 2,500 people there, Governor Brown. I said to them after 9/11, I always dreaded having to come to something like this, meaning another attack. My goodness, we were very fortunate for a long period of time. But then I said to them, I hate to tell you this but you’re going to be needed to help comfort other people in the future. I think we’re going to be seeing this sporadically.

SCARBOROUGH: Are we’re moving to a situation like Israel has had to deal with for the past 40 years?

GIULIANI: Maybe not as many attacks. They were having like one or two a week. If you say we’re going to have four, five more attacks, I wouldn’t be surprised. These attacks that we’re seeing – I shouldn’t say easy but they’re relatively easy to do. They’re not like the Sept. 11 attack where you had to plan for two years and there’d be a lot of communication traffic back and forth. These things you can plan within a relatively small group of people.
