Scarborough: Cruz as GOP Nominee Means ‘Senate Majority Leader’ Chuck Schumer — ‘Worst-Case Scenario’ for GOP, Worse Than Trump

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough made the case that if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is the eventual Republican Party presidential nominee, it would be “bad news” for Senate Republicans down ticket seeking reelection this fall, specifically Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Rob Portman (R-OH) and Ron Johnson (R-WI).

“Ted Cruz means bad news [for Ayotte in New Hampshire], bad news in Ohio for Portman, bad news in Wisconsin,” Scarborough said. “Ted Cruz at the top of the ticket means Ron Johnson in Wisconsin is looking for new job … Chuck Schumer as majority leader.”

He argued while there is some discomfort with the current front-runner Donald Trump as the nominee, Trump would be better for those Republicans than Cruz.

“I can’t say this enough,” he added. “It’s just a reality. You probably agree, or maybe you don’t. Ted Cruz is the worst-case scenario for senate candidates, even worse than Donald Trump.”
