Dem Sen Murphy: People Had ‘Harder Time’ Saying What Clinton Was For, We Shouldn’t Fight Over Nordstrom’s and Crowds

During a discussion with the Washington Post on Friday, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) argued that “if you ask people in Connecticut what Donald Trump stood for in this election, they can tell you pretty quickly. … If I asked them what Hillary Clinton was for, they’d have a little bit a harder time, right?” And some things, like Ivanka Trump and Nordstrom’s and crowd sizes, are things Democrats should let go and not fight over.

Murphy said, “[I]f you ask people in Connecticut what Donald Trump stood for in this election, they can tell you pretty quickly. They can tell you he stands for a wall. He wants — he doesn’t want Muslims to enter the United States. He wants to beat the hell out of China. If I asked them what Hillary Clinton was for, they’d have a little bit a harder time, right? And I think this is the most important question for Democrats, what are are we for? And how do we clearly articulate what we’re for? And I think that’s a really important question when it comes to the resistance, because the temptation in opposing Trump will be to oppose everything.”

He further stated that Democrats have had a “super confusing” economic message, “because half the time we talk about economic growth, and half the time we talk about economic fairness.”

Murphy also argued that “Ivanka Trump and Nordstrom’s, and crowd sizes,” are things the Democrats shouldn’t fight.
