Ryan: Immigration Discharge Petition ‘Surrenders the Floor’ to Dems – ‘I Don’t Think the Majority Ever Should’ Do One

On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Benson and Harf,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) expressed opposition to a discharge petition that would force votes on immigration, saying that discharge petitions give away “the floor to the minority.”

Ryan said, “[W]e don’t like discharge petitions because it surrenders the floor to the minority. So, I don’t think the majority should ever do a discharge petition. So yes, we do not think our members should be doing discharge petitions.”

He further stated that the best way to figure a way forward on immigration is to work through the committee process, and a discharge petition will result in whatever the House passes not getting taken up in the Senate and not getting a signature from the president.
