Trailer Talk: Cruise Confounds Critics in "Jack Reacher"

A full trailer has been released for “Jack Reacher,” a film based on the iconic character created by novelist Lee Child. The film stars Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall and Werner Herzog.

Synopsis:  A homicide investigator digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims.

Thoughts: Originally, the idea of Cruise portraying Jack Reacher on the big screen made me quiver like many other fans of Lee Child’s literary badass. But the full trailer for the upcoming film seems to validate not only the headlining actor, but the author who has stood by the casting decision for many months now.

There’s no doubt Cruise has charisma and is an amazing actor when he wants to be. Halfway through the trailer, I forgot my doubts and completely accepted him as the physically overbearing Jack Reacher. Perhaps Child was right. Cruise brings something to the table that his physically larger counterparts couldn’t: acting ability.

Director Christopher McQuarrie seems as though he has successfully captured the unique tone of Child’s novels and Cruise may actually pull off the impossible. Plus, Herzog is in front of the screen acting crazy. What else can we ask for?
