Trailer Talk: 'Hercules: The Legend Begins' Brings Low-Rent Mythology Minus The Rock

The debut trailer for Hercules: The Legend Begins was revealed to the world not too long ago at the New York Comic Con. The film is directed by Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2: Die Harder) and stars Kellan Lutz (Java Heat, the upcoming Expendables 3). Check out the trailer below and some thoughts afterwards.

At best, Hercules: The Legend Begins looks like it’ll be low rent, B-movie fun. Lutz has the physicality to pull the role off, and Harlin can be good for B-movie fun every now and then (see his Die Hard 2). However, the movie does look like it’s ripping some pages from the 300 playbook which is ironic since there’s already a 300 sequel on the way as well as another Hercules adaptation being directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson.

This movie is surely the underdog, so maybe we should give it a chance.
