'Left Behind' Trailer Features Destruction, Mayhem and a Subdued Nicolas Cage

The 2014 reboot of biblical thriller Left Behind has finally released a full-length trailer, almost two years after news initially broke that Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage would star in the film. The trailer for the movie, set to be released in October of this year, features drama, religious themes and an unsettlingly subdued Cage.

The Left Behind story centers around the fates of those left on the ruins of the earth in the aftermath of the Rapture. Cage stars as a pilot that must cope with those still onboard his plane after the world begins to burn. The trailer prominently features piles of empty clothes and full-fledged panic, as well as the key elements of every Cage action film: all the dialogue is either whispered or screamed and everything in the movie is on fire.

The film also stars Jordin Sparks of American Idol fame, former teen heartthrob Chad Michael Murray, Big Love‘s Cassi Thomson and Lea Thompson of Back to the Future as people reasonably disturbed by the end of the world.

The greatest actor of his generation (no, really, have you seen Leaving Las Vegas?) is also stated to star in two other movies released this year, Rage and Outcast, but is onboard for five other movies currently being produced— among them, a third installment of the patriotic adventure series National Treasure
