‘Traditionalist’ Bruce Jenner Still Not Completely Sold on Gay Marriage

Caitlyn Jenner Attends Culture Club Performance At The Greek Theatre

Dressed in a white top and a black skirt, self-described conservative Republican Bruce Jenner told Ellen DeGeneres Tuesday he still has mixed emotions when it comes to same-sex marriage.

Ellen, who is an open lesbian, has been married to actress Portia de Rossi since 2008. The host pressed Jenner about the topic, telling him his fellow conservatives mostly disagree with his lifestyle.

While Jenner said his views are evolving, and admitted 20 years ago he was completely against the idea, he did push back.

“Gay marriage… I’m a traditionalist. I’m older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it’s always been a man and a woman. I’m thinking, ‘I don’t quite get it,’” said Jenner.

After being challenged, the 65-year-old added, “As time has gone on, I think like a lot of people on this issue have really changed your thinking here to, ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.’ That’s not my job, okay?

Jenner then surrendered, “If that word – ‘marriage’ – is really, really that important to you, I can go with it.”

“Im on board, it is the law of the land,” the former Olympian said. “I don’t want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.”

Later, on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, DeGeneres described Jenner’s stance on social issues “confusing.”

“I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is like, really confusing to people. And you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage,’”

DeGeneres also said, “I don’t really know her… and I’m trying to understand it because I don’t fully understand it either, but I also want everybody to be happy. I want her to be happy, which is what I want for her, for me.”
