Fly to Tijuana, Walk to San Diego

The Associated Press reports that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has approved plans for “the nation’s first cross-border airport terminal.” The terminal, run by Otay Tijuana Venture, would include a pedestrian bridge connecting Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California. The company would pay border enforcement costs.

Currently, tourists fly to one city or the other and cross the border by land. The passage is usually fairly quick from the U.S. to Mexico, but can take many hours in the opposite direction. The new airport terminal would allow ticketed passengers to cross back and forth more easily, easing some of the congestion at the land border.
