Late Snow Falls in Northern California

Late Snow Falls in Northern California

There may be a small bit of relief for farmers in California suffering from the drought. Despite the fact that it is late in the season, more than 3 inches of snow fell near Lake Tahoe early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory because snow levels dipped to around 6,000 feet around the area. The snow was falling heavily upward of 7,500 feet, and rain was falling 6,000 feet and higher.

Much of the southern part of California draws its water from Northern California snowmelt, although south of the Tehachapi mountains, the Metropolitan Water District has stockpiled water from wetter years, so in that area the drought has not hit quite as hard.
