SD Driver Allegedly Drove Wrong Way to Commit Suicide

A “devoted family man,” Douglas Menegos, was killed in a head on collision on his way home last Friday, May 30, on California State Route 67 in San Diego County.

Trista Lynn Stier, who didn’t appear to have any connection to Menegos, drove the wrong way on the highway, hitting Menegos’ utility truck in what the medical examiner’s office determined was an intentional act of suicide, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

GoFundMe page has been set up to accept donations for the family, and to allow friends, family, and community members to share thoughts and memories of Doug and prayers for the family. Lindiee Hughes posted to the site that funds will go to help pay for the funeral, and any additional funds will go to helping pay for college for Menegos’ two children, ages 17 and 20.

Menegos also leaves behind his “loving wife and best friend Lisa,” according to the site.

The funding site lists a goal of $20,000 but surpassed that goal in one day, with a current total amount raised of $22,115 and climbing.

Contributor Joyce Walters wrote: “Praying for your family. I lost my dad in an accident when I was 16. It was hard on our family, but by God’s grace, He watched over us and we all made it. I pray God will take care of you all, too.”

A service for Douglas Menegos will be held 11am, Saturday June 7th at Foothills Christian Church in El Cajon, CA. Attendees are being asked to dress in “Doug Attire” to honor Menegos, listing “t-shirts, shorts and flip flops” as suggestions. The family’s request says “that’s how he [Doug] would have wanted it.”
