Medical marijuana dispensaries, brands and growing experts teamed up for the first-ever PotLuck Medical Cannabis Expo and Concert in San Diego on Saturday.

Medical marijuana patients were afforded the opportunity to meet with local distributors, hear from renowned marijuana botanists and attorneys, and rock out to some live music at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay hotel over the weekend.

“The whole goal is to connect patients who have ailments, who depend on this medicine, with the best, most preferable caretakers that can provide the most effective medicine for them,” expo organizer Jonathan Ohana told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

To that end, the convention grounds featured representatives from various local marijuana collectives, who provided information about their products to eager attendees. Featured speakers included marijuana attorney Edward Wicker and botanist and farming expert Daryll Cotton. The reggae band Sankoh and the Rockaway Kings and Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Killah Priest kept the proceedings lively.

Sponsors included the San Diego chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML); the Alliance for Responsible Medicinal Access (ARMA); and brands like Altai, which produces marijuana-infused edibles.

Marijuana expos and farmer’s markets have become more popular in California as advocates in the state gear up to place a recreational legalization measure on the 2016 ballot.

Last year, the West Coast Collective in Boyle Heights held the state’s first “marijuana farmer’s market” on Independence Day, where visitors could speak with representatives from local dispensaries and obtain high-quality medicine at a deep discount.
