One 14-year-old young man’s mission to raise the money to take his girlfriend to lunch is meeting the praise of many after a taker on his lawn-mowing pitch posted the story online.

Instead of asking his parents for money, teen Cody Mitschelen went door to door asking to mow his neighbors’ lawns at the rate of $5. It was the day before a date with girlfriend of six months Audrey Fierro, 17, and he was still short the money he needed. The two met in math class at Oakdale High School, according to the Modesto Bee

Area resident Ryan Cox was blown away by the hardworking young man and not only helped solicit more work for the teen, but posted the story to social media:

This 14 year old boy came by the house with a lawnmower wanting to mow our lawn for $5. Well…me being a hustler I had to ask this kid why you mowing lawns? He replied with… “I’d like to take my girlfriend to lunch tomorrow and I don’t have enough money.” So we’ve been going door to door getting him business and he busted his ass mowing lawns and sweeping sidewalks and made enough to take her to lunch and get her flowers. I’m so happy this still exists… Hope is still alive for the future generation and our sons and daughters. I’m impressed by whoever is raising this boy, great job!!! Thanks to you guys that also noticed and pitched in on the cause to building our future men!

Barbara Hankins replied to Cox’s post, “That’s the kind of young man you pray your daughter meets.”

Ryan Donelson responded, “Dudes got heart.. great job guys keeping real men alive what ever happened to opening the door for woman I still do I bet this kid is man enough too.”

“Good job, ur right, I have a little more faith now for our youngster’s!!!” wrote Cynthia Christensen.

The young man took his girlfriend to Safari Pizza for that first “real” date. When owner Jesse Lopez found out that the couple was coming in, after consulting with Mitschelen, he set the table with a tablecloth and flowers the Bee reported. Oh and the meal was on Lopez so the young man still has his earnings to take his girlfriend out again.

Mitschelen also heeded some advice that he bring girlfriend Fierro flowers and on Monday morning she blushed as he presented her with a bouquet.
