The Iranian mouthpiece PressTV reported on a gathering of American Muslims in Washington to mourn rabidly anti-American Shariah advocate Ayatollah Khomeini.
A young woman at the event said: “Not only did he start, you know, the Islamic Revolution in Iran, but it was more importantly an Islamic revolution. … All Muslims now… celebrate the revolution of Iran just because of its more of an Islamic uprising.”
This underscores an important point about the ‘Arab Spring.’ The woman who said this — as well as the others you’ll see in the video embedded below– no doubt use Facebook, and maybe even Twitter. They are living in the United States, and consciously reject this form of government or, more accurately, any form of government that does not implement Allah’s law (Shariah). Arguments that focus on teaching western or American values in far-flung tribal areas on the other side of world will invariably fail, because it’s not a matter of ignorance; we need to admit that some people may be educated and still agree with Khomeini when he said: Our struggle [jihad] is not about land or water, it is about bringing, by force if necessary, the whole of mankind onto the right path [Shariah, literally, “the path”].
UPDATE, to clarify: Thankfully, I really do not think the people featured in this video are in any way representative of Iranian Americans in this country. Most arrived in America to flee the brutal, totalitarian system Khomeini put in place there. Further, the people in this video are probably not representative of most Iranians living in Iran; as Americans, we should do everything we can to support the Green Movement and the toppling of Khomeini’s “legacy” and put in place a secular, democratic system.

The mourners honored the life and legacy of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a Press TV correspondent reported.
“Imam Khomeini … was not tainted by any Western ideological orientations or Western forms of governance,” Afeef Khan from the Contemporary Islamic Thought told Press TV.
Among the issues discussed at the gathering was the impact that Imam Khomeini had on world affairs and the global shift in power politics in favor of Muslims.
“He showed that one person who motivates a society that may not necessarily have the military prowess [like that of] its adversaries, that, one person … can stand up to the entire world,” said Afeef Khan.
“He made the mighty, great United States seem like the paper tiger,” said an American Muslim attending the ceremony.
“Imam Khomeini has taught me as, like, a younger Muslim, how to stand up for what I believe in,” said another attendee.
According to the participants in the remembrance event, Imam Khomeini’s message of Muslim unity remains strong and resonates with the global Muslim community.
