Palestinians Fire Rockets Near Sharon Funeral

The Jerusalem Post reports that Palestinians fired two rockets near the funeral site of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who was laid to rest at his farm in southern Israel with dozens of foreign dignitaries present.

In response, the Israel Air Force launched strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza. Israel had reportedly warned Hamas not to launch or allow any such attacks during the funeral. Rockets have hit Sharon’s farm in the past.

Not to be outdone, leaders of the “moderate” Fatah faction used Sharon’s death as an opportunity to vent hate at Israel. Jibril Rajoub, formerly the head of Palestinian security services and a key negotiator with Israel in Sharon’s time, endorsed the conspiracy theory that Sharon assassinated late Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat, according to Palestinian Media Watch. Arafat died in Paris of natural causes in 2004.
