April 15 (UPI) — Warner Bros. has announced the title of its Game of Thrones movie — Aegon’s Conquest.
The studio shared the news Tuesday during its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, which showcased its projects for “2027 and beyond.”
Aegon’s Conquest will center on Aegon I Targaryen, known as Aegon the Conqueror after defeating six of the Seven Kingdoms in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire by author George R.R. Martin.
Aegon, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, had two wives, his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. The trio established the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros.
Aegon’s Conquest is one of several upcoming projects based on Martin’s works. His Song of Ice and Fire book series was previously adapted as the hit show Game of Thrones, which had an eight-season run on HBO from 2011 to 2019.
Here’s a list of official and unofficial spinoffs:
Confirmed
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3
Based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood, a fictional compendium about House Targaryen, House of the Dragon will return for a third season on HBO in June.
The series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and chronicles the “Dance of the Dragons,” a war of succession that pitted Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and her followers against her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) and his supporters.
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans and Steve Toussaint also return to star in Season 3.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, premiered on HBO in January and is expected to return for a second season in 2027.
Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell star as the hedge knight Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and the prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, two unlikely friends whose adventures shape the realm about 90 years before Game of Thrones.
The series was renewed for Season 2 ahead of its debut.
‘Game of Thrones: The Mad King’
Fans will have the opportunity to return to the world of Game of Thrones when the stage production Game of Thrones: The Mad King plays at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in London from July 20 to Sept. 5.
Based on Martin’s works, The Mad King opens on the eve of the tourney at Harrenhal where life-changing events were set into motion in the years leading up to Game of Thrones.
The play, written by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, takes place during the reign of Aerys II Targaryen, known as the Mad King.
“Family bonds, ancient prophecies, and the sacred line of succession will be tested in a dangerous campaign for power. Who will survive? Who will rise?” an official description reads.
Unconfirmed
‘Nine Voyages’
First imagined as a live-action series from Rome creator Bruno Heller, Martin announced in 2023 that a project about Corlys Velaryon, aka the Sea Snake, is now being developed as an animated show.
Nine Voyages would follow the adventures of the Sea Snake, played by Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon, the head of House Velaryon who was married to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen.
In Martin’s books, the Sea Snake is a renowned seafarer who completed nine great voyages to the continent of Essos.
Jon Snow or Arya Stark sequel
Reports first surfaced in 2022 that Game of Thrones star Kit Harington would return to star in a spinoff series about Jon Snow, who was last seen journeying north of the Wall after being exiled from Westeros.
In an interview with Martin published in January, The Hollywood Reporter said the once-shelved project may have a new writer in Quoc Dang Tran (Drops of God) and might shift the story to Essos and add Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).
Martin was unable to comment on projects in development.
