Car bomb kills at least 7 in Somalia

Sept. 28 (UPI) — A car bomb killed at least seven people Thursday in Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu.

The blast also wounded at least six others, VOA News reported, and caused large plumes of smoke to rise in the sky. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but militant Islamist organization al-Shabab commonly carries out attacks in Mogadishu.

“What happened was a car bomb hit a mini-bus. At least seven people were killed and six others injured,” Mogadishu spokesman Abdifatah Omar Halane said.

Witness said a government security vehicle was nearby at the time of the attack, but it isn’t immediately clear whether it was the bomb’s intended target.

Garowe Online reported that the bombing also took place near London Gate restaurant. The outlet spoke with a police captain who reported dozens of injuries.
