Nov. 12 (UPI) — The Cincinnati Bengals have fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin after being blown out by the New Orleans Saints.

Sources informed NFL Network and ESPN of the move on Monday, following the Bengals’ 51-14 setback.

The Bengals allowed 509 total yards in the loss, the third-consecutive game that the Bengals have allowed at least 500 yards.

Austin, 53, joined the Bengals’ staff this offseason after serving the same role for the Detroit Lions from 2014 through 2017. He entered the NFL ranks in 2003 as a defensive backs coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Austin also coached up the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens secondaries before joining the Lions.

The Bengals face the Ravens at 1 p.m. on Sunday in an AFC North matchup at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Cincinnati sits in second place in the AFC North, just ahead of the Ravens. The Pittsburgh steelers lead the division.
