Feb. 1 (UPI) — Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones is rejoining the Atlanta Braves as a part-time hitting consultant, the club announced Monday.
Before accepting his latest position, Jones worked with the Braves as a special assistant to baseball operations. He also worked as a broadcaster for ESPN.
“Words can’t describe how excited I am to be rejoining my beloved @Braves,” Jones wrote Monday on social media. “Haven’t looked forward to spring training this much in 9 [years]. Working with our guys is an honor and I will do my best not to screw them up!”

The 48-year-old Jones spent his entire 19-year MLB career with the Braves. He had a .303 batting average during his playing career and led the league with a .363 mark in 2008.
Jones, an eight-time All-Star selection and the 1999 National League MVP, finished with 468 home runs and 1,623 RBIs. Among switch-hitters, only Eddie Murray has more RBIs in league history.
Jones was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018, his first year of eligibility.
The Braves’ pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for spring training on Feb. 17, followed by position players on Feb. 22.
