Ireland to hold referendum on legalising abortion on May 25: govt

Dublin (AFP) – Ireland will hold a referendum on May 25 on whether to alter its constitution to legalise abortion, Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy announced Wednesday after the Irish Senate voted in favour of holding the poll.

“I’ve just signed the order for polling day on the referendum on repealing the 8th amendment to the constitution,” he said at a press conference.
