Keegan-Michael Key joins cast of Eddie Murphy’s ‘Dolemite’ movie

June 29 (UPI) — Key and Peele and Friends From College actor Keegan-Michael Key has signed on to play screenwriter and actor Jerry Jones in Netflix’s Rudy Ray Moore biopic, Dolemite is My Name!

Filming is now underway in Los Angeles on the project, which stars Eddie Murphy as Moore. Helmed by Craig Brewer, the picture will co-star Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Tituss Burgess and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. It is slated to premiere next year.

“Real life story of the irreverent Rudy Ray Moore, a ‘larger than life’ comedian, musician, singer, actor, and film producer in the 1970s,” a synopsis said. “When he couldn’t get work in Hollywood, he simply created his own — including the most well-known Blaxploitation film of all time, Dolemite.”

Key made headlines earlier this month when he announced he had married television producer Elisa Pugliese in New York.
