Kiteboarder crashes into humpback whale off San Francisco

July 6 (UPI) — A kiteboarder off the California coast captured the moment he collided with a humpback whale that abruptly surfaced in front of him.

Andrei Grigoriev posted a video to Facebook showing his surprising encounter while kitesurfing off the coast of San Francisco’s Crissy Field Beach.

The video, which Grigorev said was recorded last month, shows the kiteboarder being shocked when his board hits a humpback whale that surfaced in his path.

“The whale appeared to hit me twice,” Grigoriev wrote. “First drifted underneath, scaring the hell out of me, then made a turn and in 15 seconds came back on high speed, splashing fountains and rolling. These guys r playing it hard.”
