Sept. 22 (UPI) — A man suspected of killing one man and injuring several others at a shooting at a New Hampshire country club Saturday is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Hunter Nadeau, 23, of Nashua, N.H., is a former employee of the Sky Meadow Country Club. He allegedly shot and killed Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, who used his body to shield his family.
Police said there is no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare.
Nadeau is charged with one count of second-degree murder, but more charges are likely to come. The arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT in Nashua Circuit Court, via video.
According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, Nadeau walked into the club with a handgun and opened fire.
A restaurant employee and a patron were shot and injured, and four other patrons were also hurt.
One employee working as a host for a wedding at the time was shot in the face, CBS News reported. The employee was flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston in critical but stable condition.
Police said the shooting was over quickly because people rushed in to try to subdue the alleged gunman. Witnesses said one man hit Nadeau over the head with a chair, CBS reported.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said Sunday that Nadeau stopped working at Sky Meadow about a year ago.
Formella said authorities are working to determine Nadeau’s motive, but the shooting does not appear hate-motivated. Witnesses said Nadeau made statements during the shooting, but Formella said it’s likely the alleged shooter was trying to “create chaos in the moment.”
