Parakeet makes surprise entrance in hospital kitchen

June 20 (UPI) — Animal rescuers in Wales said they are searching for the owner of a parakeet that made a surprise appearance in a hospital kitchen.

RSPCA Cymru said the parakeet caused a scene when it flew into the kitchen of Ronald McDonald House Charities at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales, commonly known as Heath Hospital, about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The RSPCA said workers were able to capture the parakeet before Animal Collection Officer Gary Lucas arrived on the scene.

“Without question, this parakeet would have proven one of the more unexpected visitors to Cardiff’s Heath Hospital,” Lucas said.

“The stray bird flew into the kitchen at Ronald McDonald House Charities — but, thankfully, we were soon able to rescue the bird,” he said.

The parakeet, believed to be an escaped pet, was checked out by a veterinarian and found to be in good health. The RSPCA is now trying to find the bird’s owner.
