Oct. 1 (UPI) — A Maryland Lottery player picked a random non-winning Racetrax ticket from her stack and decided to replay it — earning $30,879 in the process.
The Berwyn Heights woman told Maryland Lottery officials she stopped at Parkway Liquors on Greenbelt Avenue in Berwyn Heights to cash in some winning scratch-off tickets, and while there she decided to play the Racetrax virtual horse racing game.
“I had a stack of tickets that I had already played and I just picked one,” she said. “I just asked the cashier to repeat that ticket.”
The $20 Trifecta bet for 20 races ended up winning her $30,879 when the horses 10, 12 and 11 came finished in the top spots.
“I was speechless,” she said. “I grabbed my ticket to make sure it was in the right order and it sure was.”
The winner said her prize money will go toward paying bills, fixing up her home and donating to renovation efforts at her church.
