Sophia Lillis starts work on ‘Nancy Drew’ in Georgia

June 6 (UPI) — Principal photography has begun in Georgia on Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, a film starring Sophia Lillis as the titular, teen sleuth.

The mystery movie is a collaboration between Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production company, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Red 56.

Katt Shea is directing the film. DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Chip Diggins and Wendy Williams are among its producers.

The book by Mildred Wirt Benson — penned under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene — was first published in 1930 and adapted by Warner Bros. as a film in 1939, starring Bonita Granville.

The Nancy Drew series of novels also inspired the studio’s 2007 movie Nancy Drew, with Emma Roberts playing the lead.

Lillis is known for her role in the horror film It. She will soon be seen in the HBO series Sharp Objects.
