Three rescued from plane crash into water near Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 15 (UPI) — Three people survived the crash of a small plane Friday morning when it fell into the water of Haulover Beach inlet near Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

They were pulled from the water by people aboard a yacht sailing in the vicinity of the crash. No injuries were reported, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were also involved in the recovery of the passengers.

The plane, a Cessna 206, left Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport minutes earlier, headed for Bimini, Bahamas, and reported engine problems. It struck the water about 23 miles from Ft. Lauderdale, and after the rescue the passengers sought medical treatment from an emergency medical crew waiting for them onshore.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
