US tariffs ‘wrong way’ to deal with trade issues: UK minister

London (AFP) – Britain’s trade minister Liam Fox criticised US President Donald Trump’s announcement of duties on steel and aluminium imports to America, saying it was the “wrong” approach to such trade issues.

“We can deal multilaterally with the overproduction of steel but this is the wrong way to go about it,” he said Thursday night.

“Protectionism, tariffs never really work,” Fox added, noting he would travel to Washington next week for meetings with US officials about the tariffs and possible exemptions for American allies.
