Teamsters President Cool With Communists

Teamsters President Cool With Communists

As May Day marches and protests have kicked off around the country today, they also had a large turnout in Chicago. Because of the overwhelming presence of revolutionary communist, socialist, and anarchist groups, we asked union leaders marching in the protest if they felt they were marching in solidarity with the revolutionaries, or if they felt they were part of a separate movement.

We caught up with Donnie Von Moore, the president of Teamsters Local 743, to get his views.

Unlike many we have spoken to in the past, who try to denounce the hard left revolutionaries as a “fringe element,” Von Moore said these elements at the protest don’t bother him.

He later went on to comment about my questioning during his speech on stage at Federal Plaza. Although he claimed I put my camera in his face (the video shows clearly that it was not), and he consented to be interviewed, he went to say that communists, fascists and everybody out there today are part of the 99 percent and defended their presence there.
