Boehner: Situation at Border a Crisis 'of the Administration's Own Making'

The humanitarian crisis at the border is one of the administration’s own creation, House Speaker John Boehner argued Thursday.

“There has been a dramatic increase in the number of unaccompanied minors crossing our border from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, and the administration’s actions have only served to encourage more illegal crossers. It’s another situation that appears to have caught the administration flat-footed,” Boehner explained.

Boehner commented on the border situation amid a list of what Republicans have argued are administration mistakes and scandals — such as the ongoing Internal Revenue Service scandal, jobs, the Veterans Affairs scandal, the release of Guantanamo detainees, the crisis in Iraq, and the spread of terrorism in Libya, Egypt, and Syria.

“We’re seeing a humanitarian disaster [at the border], one of the administration’s own making.” he said.

Boehner added that after the last election he said that he hoped Obama would “seize this moment” and lead.

“Here we are a year and a half later and you look at this presidency and you can’t help but get the sense that the wheels are coming off,” he said.

Of the leadership elections set to take place this week, Boehner commented, “Happy election day.”
