Boehner's Border Group Recommendations Don't Heed Cruz Call

A working group of lawmakers appointed by Speaker John Boehner submitted their final policy recommendations to him late Wednesday, which did not include language intended to prevent President Obama from expanding a unilateral amnesty for so-called DREAMers, a member of the group told Breitbart News.

The group’s report, which was intended to be completed by Wednesday morning, has not been released to the public. The recommendations were submitted to Boehner prior to a call from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for the bill to address the Obama program, called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

“We had already submitted our report when Cruz said what he said. We signed off on it last night. It’s in the speaker’s hands. After the fact, coming in and saying, ‘let’s reverse DACA’ – no, it’s not in there. Will it be addressed as it goes forward? It could be. It’s not in the final report,” Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), a member of the group, told Breitbart News.

“I would love to see legislation that reverses DACA on the president’s desk. If there is a bill that is introduced to do that, I will cosponsor it. But as far as this package you’re trying to find unanimity with everyone in the group,” Salmon added.

Boehner was asked repeatedly about Cruz’s call in a press conference Thursday and indicated discussions with the working group were still pending.

“We’re discussing all of these issues with the border working group and the appropriators,” Boehner said.

Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) is leading the working group.
