Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) invited GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson as his guest to attend Pope Francis’ address to Congress on Thursday.

“I appreciate the invitation from Congressman Mark Sanford and am looking forward to hearing the thoughts of the Holy leader,” stated Carson.

The Hill reports that Sanford’s office released a statement that Carson will watch the Pope’s address in the House Chamber with Sanford, who complimented the Pope’s “lessons in humility, frugality, and leading by example.”

Carson is a devout Christian and recently made media headlines by stating he didn’t support a Muslim becoming President of the United States – specifically a Muslim who wouldn’t renounce Sharia Law.
