President Barack Obama won’t meet with Philippines President Duterte after the fiery leader called him a “son of a whore.”
“President Obama will not be holding a bilateral meeting with President Duterte of the Philippines this afternoon,” National Security Council Spokesperson Ned Price noted in a statement to reporters.
Obama met with President Park of South Korea instead before traveling to the nation of Laos for a visit.
Duterte made his remarks after he was asked about the scheduled meeting with Obama, and the potential discussion about his violent war on the drug cartels that has killed over 2,400 people.
Duterte demanded that Obama be respectful during the meeting or “son of a bitch, I will swear at you in that forum” according to the Associated Press.
(Duterte used the words ”putang ina” which literally means “whore mother” — an insult or interjection that translates into “son of a bitch” or “son of a whore” in English.)
Obama described Duterte as a “colorful” leader during a press conference yesterday in China.
“I have seen some of those colorful statements in the past so clearly he’s a colorful guy,” Obama said.
