Jacksonville Sheriff’s deputies went to Memorial Hospital over the weekend after a man showed up with a bullet wound to his penis.
WHAS 11 reports that deputies went to the hospital after learning 38-year-old Cedric Jelks had arrived to have a gunshot wound treated, but they did not know the nature of the wound. Upon interviewing Jelks’ girlfriend they learned he “accidentally sat on his firearm” and shot himself.
According to the Mirror, the handgun “was in driver’s seat of [a] car when [Jelks] sat on it and somehow the pressure of his [buttocks] squeezed off the trigger, with the discharged bullet destroying his penis.” Jelk’s girlfriend said said he entered the house in a panic; that he “ran into the bathroom to inspect himself and she followed and saw that he had sustained a gunshot wound.”
She drove him to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a bullet to the penis.
No information on the make of the firearm was released.
