President Donald Trump will meet on Wednesday with about 15-20 students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where last week’s school shooting occurred, according to a White House official.
A senior White House source spoke to Fox News and CNN about the upcoming meeting.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed on Tuesday that members of the Parkland, Florida, community would attend the meeting as well as individuals from past school shootings.
The White House has described the meeting as a “listening session” during which the president will hear attendees’ views about gun violence and school safety. The meeting is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Eastern at the White House.
“As the president has said many times, it is the right of every American child to grow up in a safe community,” Sanders said. “No parent should ever have to wonder if their child will return home from school at the end of the day.”
Trump is hosting a meeting with law enforcement officials on Thursday.
