President Donald Trump chastised Democrats for protecting terrible immigration laws on Monday.

“We have the worst immigration laws and the dumbest immigration laws in the history of the world,” Trump said to reporters after meeting with officials to survey the damage in Georgia from Hurricane Michael.

Reporters questioned the president during the visit about family separation policies for illegal immigrants caught at the border.

“There’s no country in the world that has such stupid laws as we do,” he replied.

Trump scoffed at the laws for allowing illegals to go through a court process, citing the practice of “catch and release.”

“They put one foot on our land and we have to bring them through a long court process,” Trump said.

Trump said he would continue working to change the laws, but blamed Democrats for blocking any reforms.

“We have the dumbest laws in history, and it’s because of the Democrats,” he said, “because they want to have these laws that way.”
