Nadal Beats Federer in Cincinnati, Advances to Semis

Rafael Nadal was victorious over Roger Federer in the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, OH. He won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Nadal is now 21-10 against Federer and beat him all three times this year. He missed last season after both knees were injured in Wimbledon, but bounced back after The Australian Open. He became the first man to win eight French Open titles, but was defeated in the first round of Wimbledon against 135th-ranked Steve Darcis.

Federer has slowly lost his grip in the tennis world since winning Wimbledon last year. He could not advance far in tournaments and lost in the second round at Wimbledon. He is suffering from a sore back and even changed his racket. So far nothing has worked.

Federer went up in the second set, but Nadal broke the final point to even the set. He broke again to take the set. Federer did score on four match points, but Nadal won.

Both will play in New York at the US Open. That tournament starts on August 26th.
