NASCAR: No Confederate Flags for Us

Dukes of Hazzard

NASCAR announced that they support the position of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and will not permit the use of the Confederate flag in any official capacity at any of their sanctioned events.

Haley said at a press conference on Monday that the Confederate flag flying on the statehouse grounds should be taken down as soon as possible.

Tuesday afternoon NASCAR issued a statement saying,

As we continue to mourn the tragic loss of life last week in Charleston, we join our nation’s embrace of those impacted…  As our industry works collectively to ensure that all fans are welcome at our races, NASCAR will continue our long-standing policy to disallow the use of the Confederate Flag symbol in any official NASCAR capacity. While NASCAR recognizes that freedom of expression is an inherent right of all citizens, we will continue to strive for an inclusive environment at our events.

Breitbart News reported that the momentum for banning the Confederate flag is mounting. Retailers Amazon, Walmart, Target, and eBay announced Tuesday afternoon that they would ban merchandise that depicted the flag.

In an Associated Press article on Tuesday, 2016 Democratic presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton said that the Confederate flag is a symbol of the nation’s racist past that should have “no place” in the country’s present or future.
