The legislation would restrict federal funds and grants to sanctuary cities and channel the funding to jurisdictions that comply with immigration authorities. It would also affirm local law enforcement’s right to comply with immigration officials and establish a mandatory minimum sentence for criminal immigrants convicted of illegally re-entering the U.S.

Senate Democrats Block 20-Week Abortion Pain Bill

The blocked legislation, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is based on scientific evidence that has shown that unborn babies at least at 20 weeks after fertilization can feel the pain associated with being destroyed during an abortion. The Senate voted 54-42 to advance the legislation, a count that fell short of the 60 votes needed.

It’s worth noting that in the half-century since the ESEA was passed as part of Johnson’s “War on Poverty,” billions of dollars have been spent – by both Democrat and Republican administrations – on education and so-called “helpful” programs for “disadvantaged” children, and yet Democrats are still fighting for more federal control and federal programs and subsidies in order to “close the achievement gap.”

Netanyahu Out-Trolls Obama; Rejects Democrats’ Invite

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has turned down an invitation to meet with Senate Democrats, according to Reuters, politely informing them that meeting with one party alone “could compound the misperception of partisanship regarding my upcoming visit,” according to Reuters. It is a response that reprises Democrats’ complaints about the speech Netanyahu is to deliver before a joint session of Congress on March 3–and turns their own arguments against them.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee $15M in Debt

Calling it “one of the largest burdens the party has carried in decades,” The Hill reports that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is carrying $15 million in operational debt going into the 2016 election cycle, and that doesn’t include the “$5 million loan the organization took out to buy a house adjacent to its headquarters that it has leased for years…”
