A new workshop at the University of North Carolina Charlotte aims to help white students achieve “white consciousness.”

A new program at UNC Charlotte called “White Consciousness Conversations” aims to help white members of the campus community expand upon their “understand of whiteness.”

The program, which was first reported on by The College Fix, is part of an “anti-racist” effort by the school to help white community members better understand their privilege and the importance of racial equity.

“Understanding white privilege and engaging in anti-racist practice is crucial in creating racial equity,” the event description reads. “This space is for white students at UNC Charlotte who are interested in engaging in conversations to assist in their understanding of Whiteness. It is intended to be group-based, meaning we would love for participants to attend all sessions.”

This isn’t the only social justice-driven event taking place at UNC Charlotte. On Thursday, the university is hosting an “inclusivity mixer,” a networking event that is open to students of all identities.

“The Inclusivity Mixer is the premiere diversity recruiting event at UNC Charlotte. The event welcomes all applicants and hopes to encourage inclusivity and diversity no matter the ethnicity, citizenship, national origin, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, socio-economic status, special abilities, political and social philosophy and religion,” the description reads.

It’s a bizarre event because it implies that a standard networking event at UNC Charlotte would not be open to students of all different identities.

Just last week, Breitbart News published a report on a similar type of workshop taking place at the University of Maryland. The university’s “White Awake” workshop aimed to help white students explore their privilege through conversations about their experiences on campus with other white students. The event faced a pushback from students on both ends of the political spectrum.
