Halperin: Hillary ‘Running Against Herself’ And ‘Kinda Losing’

Bloomberg Politics Managing Editor Mark Halperin said that Hillary Clinton is “running against herself” and “kinda losing” on Monday’s “Today” on NBC.

“She’s running against herself, and right now, she’s kinda losing. She’s doing well in the polls, but all these questions about her emails, about whether she should face a nomination fight means that Democrats are worried. They’re putting all their chips on one horse, Hillary Clinton, and if she ends up having problems now, they’re saying ‘maybe she should be tested now by a Democrat,’ rather than risk sending her into a general election without having had debates and the kind of scrutiny you get when you have a contested fight” he stated.

Most of the discussion focused on the announcement of Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) that he was running for president, Halperin said that while Cruz has “populist support at the grassroots level,” he is a “not very well known,” “second-tier candidate right now,” and “needs more people to know him faster.” Halperin did praise Cruz’s announcement as a good way to increase his name recognition and added that Cruz “captures as well as anybody else part of what the Republican Party wants, they want someone to go to Washington and shake things up.”
