One week before his name came out as Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol’s independent presidential candidate, David French begged perennial presidential loser Mitt Romney to get into the race.

In a May 24 National Review article. French writes of Romney: “You’re the only man who can save us from future calamity.”

Romney is not going to run as an independent, as his ex-spokesman confirmed to Breitbart News on Monday night. So, French’s previous efforts, as encapsulated by his headline “Mitt Romney, Run For President,” have failed. So he is planning his own run for president, according to three separate news sources.

“And at this point, Mitt Romney is the only man who combines the integrity, financial resources, name recognition, and broad public support to make a realistic independent run at the presidency,” French wrote back on May 24.

Kristol created a media firestorm after tweeting that an “impressive” third party candidate would run with a “real chance.” If David French is all Kristol can come up with, it’s likely this will end up in the ash heap of Kristol’s history of inaccurate predictions.
