Trump on an Endorsement from Cruz: ‘I will Not Accept it’

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Republican nominee Donald Trump’s final message to the Republican National Convention thanks everyone for helping — except for former 2016 GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

“If he gives it, I will not accept it,” Trump stated about a potential endorsement from his primary rival.

Cruz spoke during prime time on Wednesday night at the convention, but did not endorse Trump. He was booed off the stage as a result.

“He may have ruined his political career,” Trump added. “I don’t want his endorsement — what difference does it make?”

“Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself,” Trump said, telling his supporters that he viewed Cruz’s speech on Wednesday before the Texas senator took the podium.

“You’re bound by the pledge,” like one is bound by the speech, Trump told his supporters — drawing a parallel to the Republican Party pledge that Cruz had signed, but has broken, since he isn’t supporting the GOP nominee. “So Ted Cruz took his speech and was done…then made a statement that wasn’t in the speech…to me that’s dishonorable.”

“Not signing a pledge is dishonorable,” Trump bashed, saying it’s “not a nice thing to do.”

Cruz said he couldn’t endorse someone who attacked his wife and father.

“I didn’t start anything with the wife,” Trump told the crowd. “I know nothing about his father,” he added.
