Two Florida high school students received online death threats after posting images online of themselves as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and a border wall.
The threats were serious enough for additional police officers to come to Palatka High School Tuesday for security reasons, WKMG reported.
The threats came as a response to Cassidy Cushman’s Facebook post showing her dressed up as “the wall” and her friend Shelby McCellan dressed as Trump.
They dressed up for an American-themed day Monday as part of homecoming week festivities.
Cushman and McCellan said they were met with taunts and threats on Facebook and in school.
Cushman’s original Facebook post had nearly 300 comments and close to 100 shares on Facebook as of Wednesday afternoon.
The school, however, had no issues with the costumes and both girls said they didn’t mean any harm by wearing them.
“There was nothing racist and/or mean about (the) choice of costume. They are just strong in their political beliefs,” McCellan’s mother said to WKMG.
Despite the threats, no issues were reported at the school Tuesday.
