Marco Rubio, the Florida Senator whom many insider Republicans believe has an inside track to be Mitt Romney’s pick for his running mate, slipped today in an interview with the University of Phoenix/National Journal Next America project. “I don’t want to be the vice president right now, or maybe ever,” he said. “I really want to do a good job in the Senate.”

But only moments later, Rubio made a rather significant Freudian slip: “If in four to five years, if I do a good job as vice president – I’m sorry, as senator – I’ll have the chance to do all sorts of things.”

Rubio has repeatedly stated that he will not run with Romney. Nonetheless, speculation has not died down – in fact, it has increased that Rubio is on Romney’s short list.
