Obama Campaign Spokeswoman Smears Romney's Virginia Supporters as Racist

State Senator Louise Lucas (D-VA) is  one of President Obama’s official campaign “Truth Team” surrogates, and this is what she said the other day on the John Fredericks Morning Show, a morning radio talk show in Virginia. Please listen to the full clip.

Context is always important and the full context in this case is damning:

Via Red State where Ben Howe writes:

Speaking on the John Fredericks Morning Show, State Sen. Louise Lucas, part of President Obama’s “Truth Team” and an official member of the campaign, accused Mitt Romney of gearing his campaign in Virginia to “fringe racists” which, one can only assume, is anyone that opposes President Obama.

That is exactly right.

The headline here isn’t that a Obama campaign official is accusing Romney of *yawn* dog-whistle politics, it’s that a Obama campaign official is openly and publicly accusing Romney supporters of racism.

Sen. Lucas can hide behind the world “fringe” all she wants, but the context of the situation tells us that by “fringe” she means a huge swath of Romney supporters in Virginia.

What prompted this divisive racial ugliness from the State Senator was her reaction to comments made by Governor Romney a few weeks prior about how Obama’s lack of experience in the private sector makes him ill-suited to fix the economy — something, by the way, I believed before Obama was elected and am absolutely certain of now.

So in reference to a perfectly reasonable and logical criticism of Romney’s, the Obama campaign official said the following:

What I am saying to you is Mitt Romney, he’s speaking to a segment of the population, who does not like to see people other than a White man in a White House or any other elected position.

Let’s be real clear about it… let’s be real clear Mitt Romney is speaking to a group of people out there who don’t like folks like Barack Obama in any elected or leadership position. We know what’s going on here and some people may be afraid to say it but I am not. I am not afraid to say it.

He’s speaking to that fringe out there who do not want to see anybody other than a white person in a leadership position. Senator Miller said it before she died and I agreed with her. They don’t want President Barack Obama in office as President and for all the reasons that you and I and a lot of other people understand.

In other words, if what Romney said about Obama’s troubling and as a result, destructive, lack of private sector experience speaks to you in any way, you’re a racist. If you buy Romney’s reasoning, it’s not because that’s a reasonable rationale for why you oppose rewarding Obama with a second term, it’s because you don’t want a black man in the White House.

And it’s always the same with Barack Obama. He floats in the ether coming off as calm, reasonable and steady as his surrogates are out there Alinskying everyday Americans as racist or sexist or whatever the “ist” of the day is.

When your surrogates are smearing Romney using the world “felon” and running around on radio smearing everyday American as racist, you’re either desperate, have no control over your subordinates, or both.

This is appalling behavior from Obama’s team and yet the very same media that pounds away at Romney for anything his supporters say — be it Ted Nugent or Donald Trump — can’t even bring itself to report much less condemn what a member of the Obama campaign says.
