LA Mayor Villaraigosa Starts War on Gun Companies

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa started his war against gun companies Wednesday. Following Obama’s lead,  Villaraigosa threatened departments in the city’s bureaucracy. The Mayor warned them to divest holdings, such as city pensions, that they have invested in any gun companies that manufacture or sell assault weapons. He sent a letter to the Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles City Employee Retirement System, and the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions.

Villaraigosa stated:

City of Los Angeles funds should not go to profit companies who produce weapons designed to maximize carnage and death. As I stated in my letter to the board members, it is a moral and financial imperative to end our relationship with these companies.

Villaraigosa boasted that his city would not wait for the federal government to act and wouldn’t bow to the National Rifle Association.
